The creation of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cables can vary in quality greatly depending on what you choose. For this cable product it definitely follows the adage of you're going to get what you pay for as to the quality on these.
Is it time to review what a HDMI cable actually is and what the reason is we need it? The HDMI cable enables a digital signal to travel between two electronic components, and it can carry both the audio and video. This digital signal is significantly clearer than analog and also doesn't have the types of interferences that affect the analog cables. Similar to a CAT5 Ethernet cable the construction of the HDMI cable has four shielded twisted pairs of wire to move the signal along.
The lack of significant signal interference or environmental degradation of the signal is what sets this cable apart from the analog connectors. The digital signal has a cleaner space in which to travel, and if there is some interference the reciever is better able to still recover the information than if it were analog.
Not all cables are equal, as the quality control in the manufacture of the cables and connectors can vary with each brand. Since each of the twisted pair of wires has to carry its portion of the digital information, then broken strands or impurities in the wire can degrade the signal. The shielding may also cause interference between the twisted pairs if it does not uniformly cover the wires it is supposed to sheath. High quality connectors are also important in that if there is any inconsistency in the linkage at the connector then the signal could degrade or fail.
Most of the electronic equipment for consumers available now has connectability avaliable for the HDMI cables instead of the Component (analog) connectors. Since HDMI has the capability of carrying audio and video which makes it much simpler to connect as you don't have to do separate connectors and ports for the audio and video like it used to be with analog. Even though those analog cables have color coding to help with hookup it's still sometimes complicated with all the cables, especially compared to the simple single port connection for the HDMI.
