Two types of CDR discs are available in the market- CDR multimedia discs for PC use and only-music CDR discs to be used in audio CD players/recorders. When we approach a store to buy CDR, we prefer a brand recommended by some of our friend or relative though ours nature of use, environment conditions and PC parameters may be different from those of their. Sometimes, we get confused seeing so many options and buy the CDR recommended by the sales person letting him take the benefit of our ignorance. As a result, we complain about the poor quality or performance of the CDR. Simple analysis of the requirements before buying a CDR is the best solution of this problem. To get the best 'you really need', you just need to analyze following parameters - likely to play crucial role in overall performance of CDR.
Interface that the selected CD-R drive uses are the most important specification. CDR comes with three interface options- IDE, SCSI and USB. CDR with USB interface is preferred because most of the modern computer brands have USB compatibility. IDE interface is preferred for IBM computers while SCSI interface is preferred for Macintosh computer.
The next important aspect to be considered when purchasing a CD-R is the software that allows the computer to interface with CD-R. You must confirm that the supporting software would not disturb the existing software or functioning of PC.
Speed of CD-R drive is also an important aspect as the cost of the CDR varies according to it. CDR with lower speed ratings are cheaper than the high speed CDR. CDR with 80 or 90 or 99 minutes capacity are available in the market but 80 minutes CDR are still the preferred choice of buyers.
Apart for the above manufacturing parameters, warranty, technical support, environment resistance, life and writing process etc are the other issues that seem less important but become important when you use the purchased CDR. Many new users of CDR think that a leading brand is the guarantee of long life but it is a myth as some leading CDR brands are being manufactured and marketed by separate companies.
